2022 - Present
  • Led the adoption of serverless architecture by leveraging AWS and Terraform Cloud Development Kits (CDK). Designed and implemented the backend datastore for the company's Software Deployment service using Python. Utilized the AWS CDK to create a serverless PostgreSQL database for storing software release deployment data.
  • Drove company-wide consensus to improve the Source Code and CI/CD environment for the company by de-duplicating services to save the company $80k annually going forward and increased operational efficiency.
  • Conducted over 50 Senior, and 25 Staff Engineer interviews.

Freelance | Blockchain Engineer

  • While taking some time off, I picked up the Solidity programming language and started a personal project where I have developed a dynamic ERC-1155 contract that not only tracks wallet supply, but manages token supply, and allows for independent token URI values for each type of token created by the factory contract.
  • Learned web hosting techniques using the InterPlanetary File System (IPFS) while learning enough Java/Typescript (JS/TS) to be dangerous and get some basic sites completed.
  • Created a startup focused on creative blockchain solutions meant to disrupt markets where I’ve been able to grow my business acumen that has lead to improved focus on driving business value.

  • Designed and implemented a distributed serverless AWS Account Provisioning service using Python and AWS technologies (API Gateway, Lambda, Dynamo, Step Functions, SQS/SNS) to facilitate autonomous account inventory management for an IP Network Services Build Platform, and saved two months of annual Developer time.
  • Designed a distributed Syslog logging solution to handle 100k+ IP networking devices using AWS Kinesis streams, Logstash, and S3. The solution facilitated a more efficient log mining experience and improved data integrity while also correcting data retention challenges which made InfoSec happy.
  • Combined business operational lessons learned with Organization-wide ticketing data evaluated with Tableau to identify the project with the greatest ROI for the efforts of my development team. This lead to me designing the Syslog logging solution that was later implemented by another team member and currently serves over 1000 global facilities.
  • Simplified and standardized the notification subsystem for a Python REST service using AWS Lambda to standardize service operational reporting, consolidate code, and decrease the Operation team’s MTTR for the service.
  • Using the AWS CDK in TypeScript, designed a CI/CD pipeline to consolidate 20+ service pipelines, facilitate deployment migrations, and decrease developer time spent maintaining 20+ pipelines by 95%.

  • Lead and mentored a team of System Engineers to own, operate, and support a Python-based site build platform hosting over 800 production facilities, 10,000+ CloudFormation stacks, over 1000 VPCs, and n-1 DHCP, DNS, Radius, and Syslog services for a $1B business model.
  • Scripted a facility Infrastructure versioning system using Python to assign build versions to each facility by evaluating 10,000+ Cloudformation Stacks and the state of their resources. The operations team used the classification for each facility during troubleshooting to guide their processes and decrease facility downtime.

Zappos.com | Engineering Manager

2011 - 2012
  • Lead a migration team of three Engineers (Microsoft, Linux, Network) responsible for three facilities totaling ~1.5M sq feet consisting of more than 100 Cisco/HP networking devices, and upwards of 100 server systems including solutions to solve OSX high-speed video editing, long-term tape storage, and high-speed conveyance controls with Microsoft to Amazon Infrastructure standards with unexpected downtime of less than 1 hour.
  • Improved network security by analyzing and implementing an improved logical network topology following the Principle of Least Privilege access including, but not limited to WAN Access Control Lists (ACLs), and Virtual Local Area Network (VLAN) designs.
